Individual psychotherapy provides individuals a safe and non-judgmental space to lay it all out and work through the things that are weighing heavy on their heart and mind. It is an excellent resource to work through past trauma, gain self-awareness, improve self-esteem, learn new copings skills, begin to set boundaries, and find solutions to problems that sometimes seem unsolvable.
My first priority is to create a safe and non-judgmental space in which you feel heard, seen, and validated. I do not see my clients as their symptom and work hard to be present and truly understand their unique story and struggles. I work collaboratively with my clients to formulate the goals that they want to reach and help them gain insight and tools to choose from different options to start living the life that they want to live. I utilize Emotionally-Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), which is based on attachment science. From an attachment viewpoint, negative emotions and coping strategies keep clients stuck in recurring and negative self-perpetuating cycles of arousal and interactions with others. The goals of EFIT are strengthening the self, regulating affect, and creating new meaning. EFIT moves clients into potent new experiences that expand the self and prime new cognitions and action tendencies.
