Love is a constant process of tuning in, connecting, missing and misreading cues, disconnecting, repairing, and finding deeper connection. It is a dance of meeting and parting and finding each other again, minute by minute, and day by day."

Emotionally Focused Therapy

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), developed by Dr. Susan Johnson, is one of the most well-researched and effective approaches for helping couples reconnect. Backed by over 30 years of scientific study, EFT has consistently shown powerful results—research finds that about 70–75% of distressed couples move into recovery, and up to 90% report significant improvement in their relationship.

At its core, EFT is about more than solving surface-level problems—it helps couples get to the heart of what’s really happening between them. Many relationship struggles come from repeated, painful patterns of interaction that make it hard to feel close or understood. EFT, grounded in attachment theory, recognizes that every person has a deep, human need to feel safe, seen, and emotionally connected to the people they love.

When couples argue, it’s often because that sense of emotional safety has been shaken. Partners may feel unheard, alone, or disconnected, which can lead to frustration, misunderstandings, and distance. EFT helps couples:

  • Identify and stop negative cycles that cause conflict or emotional withdrawal
  • Understand each other’s deeper needs and fears in a safe, guided space
  • Rebuild trust, closeness, and intimacy so both partners feel secure and supported

Through EFT, couples often find new ways to reach for each other—transforming loneliness, hurt, and frustration into closeness, connection, and lasting love.

You can explore the links and videos below to learn more about how EFT works and why it’s so effective.

EFT is the only couple's therapy that has proved that results last over time.
